Guy Hinnigan

Guy Hinnigan BVSc CertES(Orth) DipECVS MRCVS

Guy is a highly experienced equine surgeon and Director at Oakhill Equine Vets, where he plays a key role in delivering specialist surgical and orthopaedic care for horses across the North West. Guy qualified from Liverpool University in 2005 and went on to work in equine practice in Cheshire, before returning to Liverpool to undertake a specialist surgical training post or ‘residency’. Both Guy and Rosie’s specialist training at Leahurst overlapped and they developed a strong working relationship during this time.

Holding both the European Diploma in Equine Surgery and RCVS Recognised Specialist status, Guy has extensive expertise in equine surgery, lameness investigations and advanced diagnostic imaging. He works closely with referring veterinary surgeons to investigate complex cases, establish accurate diagnoses and develop tailored treatment plans, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcomes for each horse.

Alongside his clinical work, Guy is involved in leading the equine division and helping to maintain Oakhill’s commitment to high standards of veterinary care, continued investment in facilities and equipment, and a collaborative approach to treating horses. He feels that Oakhill remaining an independent, privately owned practice run by those who work within it, allows for the best outcomes for staff, clients and patients alike.

Outside of work Guy is an occasional middle-distance triathlete and half-marathon runner, although as he progresses through his 40s the times seem to be heading in the wrong direction. This led to a more recent introduction to lower league tennis which may be kinder on the body, however he has quickly found the gap between his talent and his ambition. Although once a semi-competent rider, he is now relegated to the occasional hack and groom for both his wife Gilly and son Arthur.
