Charlotte Smith BVSc PGCertVPS CertAVP(ESO) MRCVS
After graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2016, Charlotte initially began her career in small animal practice before realising that her heart belonged to horses. Determined to pursue a career in equine veterinary medicine, she applied for an internship at Oakhill Equine Vets and became the practice’s very first intern!
Following her internship, she took on a mixed role combining clinic-based and ambulatory work before becoming Clinic Manager in 2020. In September 2022, she achieved RCVS Advanced Practitioner status in Orthopaedic Surgery. She continued to develop her clinical and leadership experience before becoming Clinical Director in 2026. Her role now combines clinical leadership and managing the nursing team with hands-on clinical work, including lameness investigations, anaesthesia, ambulatory visits and MRI imaging.
With particular interests in lameness, orthopaedics and diagnostic imaging, Charlotte is passionate about helping horses feel their best. She takes a gentle, calm and reassuring approach to patient care, finding it incredibly rewarding to relieve pain and improve a horse’s quality of life.
For Charlotte, being a great vet comes down to compassion, genuine care for animals and resilience. She certainly has plenty of affection for animals outside work, too, particularly her best friend and sidekick Maisie, a cheeky and very vocal Jack Russell Terrier!
When she’s not at the practice, Charlotte enjoys walking, cycling and indulging in her newfound love of gardening. She also enjoys DIY, upcycling and hunting for beautiful antique furniture, especially pieces with a story to tell. Having joined Oakhill as its very first intern, she has become a valued part of the team and is proud to still be part of a practice she loves.
