Lancashire Cat Rescue
Lancashire Cat Rescue is a local charity run by a small but dedicated team of volunteers and is based in Preston, Lancashire. We support them and thought that you would like to know a little more about the service they provide in our community. All cats are welcomed and cared for by Lancashire Cat Rescue before being found new homes with suitable adopters.
This week, we caught up with Christine Lomax, founder of Lancashire Cat Rescue, and asked her why she started this fantastic charity.
“I started Lancashire Cat Rescue in 1994 after helping the local cats protection charity. I have a passion for cats and want to ensure that we provide a high quality of care to a smaller number of cats rather than many cats. This way, we can ensure we provide them with the best possible care; such as Bonnie, the cat featured here: https://www.oakhill-vets.com/injured-cat-found-at-local-scrap-yard/. Bonnie was with us for a few weeks while she recovered from the operation on her leg. When she had the external fixator removed she was spayed and went to live with Claire and Robbie who had recently lost a much loved cat, (Tinkerbelle) that they had adopted from LCR several years previous.”
Lancashire cat rescue is completely independent and relies entirely on funds they raise themselves through dedication and hard work. The rescue started out as a small charity at the start but has now grown to over 200 members thanks to Christine and Brian Lomax’s passion and determination. Last year they celebrated 25 years as a charity and are going from strength to strength looking after rescued cats (just like the adorable peanut pictured here!).
If you would like to support them, or have a cat that needs rescuing, you can contact them on 01772 750263 or by going to their website at: www.lancatrescue.wordpress.com. You can also visit their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/LancashireCatRescue.
Due to the current issues with Covid-19, they are unable to run their flea markets so this year, more than any other, they are extremely reliant on donations to enable them to look after the cats & kittens in their care. There is however, an online “Cat Show” in October, run by one of their supporters on their behalf, so keep an eye on their Face Book page for more information!

Lancashire Cat Rescue are run entirely by volunteers (no one gets a wage!), so every penny donated goes directly towards caring for the cats.
