dog-training4u

Oakhill Veterinary Centre and Abbey Vets are pleased to introduce our resident dog trainer and behaviourist Damian Barson of dog-training4u and gundog-training4u based in Woodplumpton, Preston, Lancashire.  Damian also lecturers at Myerscough college covering all aspects of dog behaviour, psychology, breed, welfare and training.

As a very busy Veterinary centre we see a wide range of dogs and know only too well some of the behavioural problems some owners face so the logical solution was to offer dog training classes in an attempt to help our clients to live happily alongside their canine companions.

We approached Damian about coming on-board with us back in August 2011 after seeing him training with his own dogs and, in October 2011, our working relationship saw the commencement of dog training classes at our extensive equestrian facilities at Langley Lane, Goosnargh, Preston. The training groups are limited to a small number of owners and their dogs to allow a greater teacher and student ratio to maximise training potential. During the winter months the classes are held inside to offer some much needed protection from the elements but when the better weather arrives our clients and their dogs will be making full use of our large paddock area.

Damian has also been working independently with many of our clients on a 1-2-1 basis; some have met with him at his training grounds while others have requested a home visit.  Referrals can be arranged via the practice but appointments and prices can only be made directly with Damian.

A note from Damian

“The classes are aimed at training dogs to become well behaved and balanced as part of a pack. I feel it’s important to help owners to understand the basic principles of the pack structure as a happy and well behaved dog is usually what owners are looking for. I have experience in all areas of dog training and have worked with a variety of breeds and abilities. Training with such differing breeds can be challenging but, as an experienced trainer, I relish the opportunity to help both owner and dog to reach their full potential.

As an owner working dogs myself I know the benefits training can bring to both dog and owner and I enjoy training with a strong-willed and driven dog.”
