New Gastroscope at Oakhill
If any of you have had your horse 'scoped' at Oakhill (probably to look at it's respiratory tract), you will know what this new piece of kit looks like. The only difference with this scope is that it is over 3 metres long which allows us to pass into the stomach of horses and look for the presence of gastric ulcers.
Gastric ulcers cause a condition called Gastric Ulceration Syndrome, that can cause many symptoms including colic, weight loss, poor performance, and behavioural changes.
