Could your dog save a life?

We are pleased to announce we have arranged our first donor session with Pet Blood Bank UK for Saturday 7th July at our Oakhill, Goosnargh branch. We are proud to be associatied with PET BLOOD BANK UK, who are a charity that provide a national canine blood bank open to all UK veterinary practitioners.

Just like the human blood service, Pet Blood Bank collects blood from donors at organised sessions. The blood is then processed into packed red blood cells and fresh plasma before being supplied to vets across the UK.

This means that we have blood products on hand if needed for transfusions during surgery or to treat major traumas and disease, which could happen to ANY dog over their lifetime.

We are excited and proud to be able to use one of our branches as a site to host these important and necessary collection sessions and would like to hear from any owner who feels their pet could help.

Who can donate?

Before being accepted there are certain criteria that each donor has to meet.

  • Healthy and friendly
  • Aged between 1-8 years
  • Weigh over 25kg
  • Current with vaccinations
  • Not travelled outside UK and Eire
