Bruce's amazing recovery after icy road traffic accident
“Bruce” is a 10-month-old male Shih tzu who is a much loved member of a family and owned by a little girl called Georgia.
He was seen during the cold spell before Christmas after running into the road and being hit by a car. Luckily due to the icy weather the car wasn’t going fast or the impact of the accident could have been much worse.
He was rushed down to Oakhill Veterinary Centre and was treated for shock and given pain relief. We were initially concerned about his rapid breathing so x-rays of his chest were taken to make sure he wasn’t bleeding into his chest. We also noticed that he had badly fractured his right hind leg.
Over the next 12 hours it was touch and go whether he was going to make it however 24 hours later he was stable and we went on to repair his badly fractured hind leg. He even made it home for Christmas Eve.
He now has a plate and numerous screws in his hind leg holding the fracture in place. At the time of writing he was doing really well however his family were finding it very difficult to rest him.
