Nutritional & Metabolic Monitoring Service

Feeding our stock has a huge impact on how well they perform and in turn on the profitability of the farm business. Routine monitoring of the stock nutrition allows us to intervene early before animals become deficient or begin to show production diseases.

We routinely monitor both cows and sheep using blood samples, tissue analysis and milk recording data.

Dairy Herds

Dairy cow monitoring is a core part of proactive herd management. We carry out a number of routine tasks including:

  • Body Condition Scoring
  • Faecal Consistency and Rumen Fill Scores
  • Milk recording data analysis to identify possible Ketosis and Acidosis risks
  • Blood Sampling including on-farm Ketone testing and Herd Metabolic Profiles
  • On-farm rumen fluid sampling in cases of suspected Sub Acute Ruminal acidosis

Identifying the early warning signs allows us to pre-empt a potential problem and take the necessary steps to rectify the situation.

Sheep Flocks

We carry out pre-lambing blood samples to check the nutritional and trace element status of ewes in the run-up to lambing. This allows us to correct any trace element or energy/protein deficiencies before they lead to problems such as Twin Lamb Disease.
