Bull Breeding Soundness Examination

A Bull Breeding Soundness examination ia a detailed check of the bull with emphasis on its fertility and can be carried out by a specially trained Veterinary Surgeon.

It involves:

  • checking the overall health status of the bull
  • looking at the suitability for breeding from a conformation and hereditary disease point of view
  • an examination of the reproductive tract of the bull
  • plus a full semen quality examination

At the end of the examination you will be told whether the bull is considered satisfactory or unsatisfactory for breeding or whether he needs to be rechecked after a period of rest.

1 in 4 bulls in the UK at present is unfit for breeding - use this to check that it is not one of yours!
